Our Story

Kinston High School staff and community are committed to creating a challenging, productive, and safe environment where students work together with staff and the community and strive to be competitive 21st century learners. Kinston High School's mission is to graduate students who are academically and socially prepared to function as productive members in a global community by providing a challenging curriculum and opportunities to develop their talents and skills in a safe and nurturing environment.

Inspire

Kinston High School believes every student has value and can learn. Education is the collective responsibility of all stakeholders including parents, students, staff members, and community members. School attendance, participation and involvement in extracurricular activities promote student achievement. An effective school provides rigor and challenges to all students. Professional growth of school personnel contributes to effective learning. Diversity promotes and broadens understanding. A safe school is essential to learning.

Imagine

Student interest inventories are conducted yearly to determine areas of interest using the Major Clarity platform. Data from this inventory is used to drive scheduling of classes and meeting the individual needs of students along their career path. Student Choice Boards for product creation is used in all classes to demonstrate mastery/student learning and meet their individual learning styles. Independent research opportunities are provided for students where they are able to explore an area of interest and develop deeper understanding.

Impact

At Kinston High School, we hold KHS Family Nights four times a year showcasing our students’ work in all instructional areas. Student work can be seen displayed throughout our hallways. During the District Gifted Gala in March 2023 our students showcased their work with robotics, graphic art, and science projects. Our computer engineering class had student representatives showcase their learning during a school board meeting at the district level. Our school Facebook page is flooded with examples of student learning and creation and celebrations of success for the school, students, and staff weekly to share with our community.
